Bessemer Investors continues the Phipps family’s legacy of private capital investing.
The Phipps family traces its wealth to the partnership between entrepreneurs and businessmen Henry Phipps and Andrew Carnegie and the 1901 sale of Carnegie Steel to JP Morgan that led to the formation of U.S. Steel.
Henry Phipps, Jr. formed companies to safeguard and invest his family’s assets and urged his children to spend wisely, work collaboratively, and act as good stewards to preserve and maintain their wealth for generations to come.
These foundational principles have led to the formation of several leading investment firms – of which Bessemer Investors is the latest.

Bessemer Trust
Henry Phipps establishes the original Bessemer Trust Company, named after the innovative Bessemer steel-making process employed by Carnegie Steel, to administer trusts for his children. Today, Bessemer Trust is a leading full-service multi-family office supervising billions of dollars in assets on behalf of thousands of family clients, including the Phipps family.

Henry Phipps creates the Bessemer Securities investment platform to invest the family wealth. Bessemer Securities has invested in private companies for more than a century and is the foundational capital behind Bessemer Investors, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Lindsay Goldberg.

Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP)
Bessemer Venture Partners spins out from Bessemer Securities. Today, BVP is an independent venture capital firm with more than $20 billion in AUM investing out of its 12th fund.

Lindsay Goldberg (LG)
Lindsay Goldberg spins out from Bessemer Securities. Today, LG is an independent private equity firm with more than $17 billion of committed capital and has launched its sixth fund.
